It Could Happen To You

Published in Vibration AnalysisPdMMaintenance TechnologiesMaintenance by jjgariepy Print PDF
I look back now and laugh, but I felt really dumb at the time. I was running a vibration analysis route on ten large air movers. Each one had a 100 hp electric motor belt driving a paddle fan. They were located in a dark and remote area of the plant. The noise level was quite high so I was wearing ear plugs. The first two air movers went smoothly and while working on the third I noticed a sharp drop in reading from the last inspection. I looked to see if the motor had been changed. It looked the same as last time I was there. Maybe they worked on the blower. No, it was the same. Then I steped back and took a long look at the blower and it "hit me". The air mover I was taking readings on was NOT running!!! It could happen to you.
